Dry Eye Syndrome (DES)
Dry Eye Syndrome (DES) is a disease of eye's surface that is caused by a complex array of internal (your body) and external (environmental) conditions. The symptoms of DES can range in severity from a minor nuisance to a significant disability. Often, complaints of redness, sandiness or grittiness, burning, blurred vision, and even tearing are symptoms of DES.
If you're a contact lens wearer, DES may cause your lenses to become intolerable. Conversely, your specific contact lens material and/or care system may be worsening your DES.
If you suffer from DES, a wide range of therapies are available that can significantly improve your symptoms. We are committed to identifying the cause or causes of your DES and providing the appropriate and specific therapies to offer relief.
It is important to remember, however, that DES has likely taken a long time, perhaps years, to develop. While new therapies are increasingly effective, no one treatment is likely to completely resolve DES rapidly. Rather, we are likely to find that appropriate treatments, along with some lifestyle changes, will improve your symptoms. But diligent care is necessary to keep DES from worsening.
Please take a moment to review our information. If you believe that you might suffer from DES, please contact us for a comprehensive eye examination. This will allow us to best understand the overall heath and refractive state of your eyes. From there, we can recommend more specific testing and treatment options, directed at your individual case.
In the vast majority of cases, DES can be controlled, and we look forward to working with you.
